From Gift Card creation to activation: the Epipoli technology

Creating a gift card also means choosing the front-end technology that is best suited to your specific needs. Here are the alternatives available with the Epipoli Group.

How to choose a front end: a delicate step in the creation of a gift card program

When you decide to create a gift card, you need to consider all the implications inherent in such a decision. This is why our gift card program assists you every step of the way, starting with card design, so that you can customize all aspects to your needs.
So when it comes to the front end, HighWays, Epipoli’s proprietary platform, provides three different front ends to choose from based on the needs of your specific business. These are the options, how they work, and who they’re designed for.

Front-end technology for creating a gift card: the cash-register integration option

This solution is suited to businesses that have a standardized IT infrastructure and a star network connecting the stores to a central server. It is also important to note that direct integration of HighWays with cash registers is achieved via API (JSON format).
In this case, gift card transactions that can be done at the register, autonomously thanks to HighWays and without the need for other hardware or systems, are as follows:

  • Activation
  • Use
  • Top-ups
  • Reversing transactions
  • Returns
  • Block/Unblock
  • Card queries
  • Transaction queries

Front-end technology for creating a gift card: the dedicated POS option

This solution is for businesses that have diverse cash-register systems and disjointed financial reporting systems.
The solution we propose calls for the configuration of POS terminals at each of the group’s points of sale. We recommend Ingenico terminals, which are the most popular and so are easier to adopt, featuring V22 fast modems and Ethernet cards (code: i5100 Ethernet), or portable terminals with GPRS modem (code: i7910).
The terminal can be used in full autonomy for a great many gift card transactions. The data for each transaction is sent, processed and saved on the application server in real time or in batches, depending on which option you choose.
More specifically, these are the gift card transactions that can be made at the register, using an intuitive menu system and numeric keypad:

  • Sales
  • Activation
  • Use
  • Top-ups (optional)
  • Reversing transactions
  • Daily summary
  • Receipt

Front-end technology for creating a gift card: the Web POS option

The only requirements in order to use the Web POS as the in-store front end are an internet connection, access to a browser and a computer, and a printer if desired. Each store will then be enabled to use the Web POS via a single access point, ideally with username and password authentication.
After logging in, the Web POS screen with display the various transactions that can be made in-store, which are:

  • Direct sales
  • Card activation for direct sales
  • Card activation for third-party sales
  • Card queries
  • Card use
  • Reversing transactions
  • Transaction queries
  • Card top-ups (optional)
  • Card activation
  • Card queries in order to determine: status (active/inactive/expired/disabled/frozen), activation date, date of last use, expiration date, available balance
  • Card use
  • Reversing transactions
  • Transaction queries
